PABA Youth Baseball - Alejandro Estacio (Rizal Technological University)
First of all, who would have thought that RTU came in and upset the top-ranked undefeated Labandera Tanauan City in the semifinals. But, give credit to RTU, they came in with a complete lineup unlike in their previous games.
Anyway, for Estacio, he came out with a three hits in four at-bats and sent two runners home during the contest to be one of the key catalysts in their 17-10 win over Tanauan. He drove two runners in the third inning as the Technocrats pulled away from an 11-5 lead, putting in vain Labandera's five-run second to cut the lead to 7-5.
As for their best-of-three title encounter with UST, it would be a tough task for the Mandaluyong batters to do as it begins this Saturday at the Rizal ballpark.
Baseball Philippines - Joseph Orilliana (Cebu Dolphins)
A day earlier, Orilliana was an assistant coach for De La Salle in their PABA Youth semis loss to UST. He suit up for the National Team in a simple exhibition game immediately after.
But, he came out in the very first game of the Baseball Philippines Pilot Series with a strong outing.
The former DLSU hurler pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout in leading the Cebu Dolphins to a comfortable, 8-0 victory over the Makati Mariners. Actually, he had a no-hitter through seven innings before surrending his first hit. At one stretch, he retired 16 consecutive batters for his impressive outing.
He fanned six Makati batters and also provided the team's first run at the plate, on a single to center field that scored Francis Rosales from second for a 1-0 lead.
